Be home with your heart.

fighting osteoporosis the simple, natural way using egg shells and lemon juice

Take two aunts of a friend of mine...

After living through decades of monthly cramps, 5 childbirths between them, then decades of childrearing followed by the menopause, both ladies were diagnosed with osteoporosis - a condition where the bones become weak and easily broken.

Both women were given drugs to deal with it...
but only one of them had any success.

And you won't believe the reason why...

But only one of my friend's aunts took their drugs.
The other just ditched hers in the bin!

When the 'cured' aunt started looking for natural alternatives to treat her osteoporosis, she came across an amazing study.

Back in 2002, Dutch researchers took a group of post-menopausal women and gave half of them a calcium carbonate supplement and the other half calcium from eggshells.

After a year, the bone density in the women taking the calcium carbonate had gone right down.

But the bone density for the women taking the eggshell calcium had significantly increased.

Interesting, isn't it?

A lot of supplement companies make good money out of perpetuating the belief that if you take a calcium supplement your bone density will increase.

But that's not how it works, as the dutch study shows. Your body needs more than just calcium for healthy bones. B vitamins, vitamin C and D, phosphorus, magnesium and are all known to be essential.

And that's why eggshell calcium works so well.

Eggshells are made up of calcium and 26 other elements. In fact, they're very similar in content to your bones and teeth.

Don't worry, I'm not suggesting you sit down for breakfast, eat your dippy egg and then crunch your way through the remaining shell. There is an easy, more palatable way to extract all those nutrients.

How to make your own super calcium supplement

- Wash some empty eggshells in warm water and let them dry

- Break them into small pieces and grind them to into a fine powder. Coffee grinders work best but a blender or even a pestle and mortar will do. Store the powder in an airtight jar.

- Mix 1/2 teaspoon of powdered eggshell with the juice of half a freshly squeezed lemon. (Yes, lemon again! Have you bought YOUR tree yet? Lemon Trees) The solution will start to bubble and foam.

- Leave at room temperature for 6-12 hours and that's it! It's ready to take.

Half a teaspoon of eggshell gives you about 400mgs or calcium citrate, which is the recommended amount you should take each day.

Ever since my friend's aunt started taking eggshell calcium, she's been regaining bone density. All her sisters take it now.

If you've been diagnosed with osteoporosis, why not give it a go?

And while we're on the subject, here are a few more natural, proven ways to help prevent osteoporosis:

- Up your intake of essential fatty acids.
Fish oil containing EPA and GLA has been shown to protect against osteoporosis. There are plenty of fish oil supplements in the shops these days - and there's always cod liver oil. Or just make sure you enjoy some salmon, mackerel, sardines or other oily fish three times a week.

- Exercise your way to healthier bones
More than 100 studies show that regular exercise such as brisk walking, running, aerobics, tennis and badminton strengthen your bones and lower your risk of getting a fracture.

- Enjoy the sunshine.
Vitamin D increases the amount of calcium and magnesium your body absorbs from food. Better still, it makes sure more calcium enters the bones and stays there. Your body produces it when your skin comes into contact with sunlight. So just make sure you get outside for at least 20 mins a day.

- Eat a varied, wholefood diet.
It goes without saying, right? But since calcium is best absorbed with all the other trace elements we've been talking about, it makes sense to eat it in its natural form. Almonds and broccoli give you plenty of calcium along with magnesium, phosphorous, B vitamins and iron - all essential for healthy bones.

- Don't cook with aluminium.
Studies have shown that aluminium can inhibit the parathyroid gland which can then lead to osteoporosis. So instead of using foil to cook in the oven, use baking paper. To store food, use a glass container. Avoid plastic containers, especially soft, flimsy ones. They're full of phthalates which have been linked to cancer. But that's a whole other story...

Rub Your Stomach Away in 2 Minutes a Day?

By Enjoy A Great Life

Did You Know…

… that you can rub your stomach away effortlessly using nothing but your hand — for only 2 minutes a day?

After spending a lovely long weekend at Center Parcs, it was fascinating to observe just how many people seemed to be battling the bulge - especially that bulge around the middle!

I love this simple idea of “rubbing your stomach away in 2 minutes a day” – a good habit to add to your daily routine don’t you think?

Dr. Stephen Chang This may sound hard to believe, but Dr. Stephen Chang, an M.D. and Ph.D. who’s trained in both Western and Chinese medicine, states that this simple 2-minute internal exercise, which does not come from Western medicine, but rather from the wisdom of ancient Chinese sages — has been used successfully as a self-healing mechanism for over 6,000 years.

Whatever you do, don’t confuse this internal exercise with the external exercises of the Western world, such as sit-ups, crunches and other movements that only firm up the underlying stomach muscles … but do nothing to melt the fat surrounding those muscles.

According to Dr. Chang, losing weight is a simple matter of increasing the efficiency of the digestive system. If you’ve ever wondered why you fail to shed pounds even when you reduce your food and/or caloric intake — the reason is because your digestive and eliminatory systems are not functioning efficiently.

The following 2-minute exercise works like a gentle colonic irrigation that helps speed up a sluggish digestive system (which usually carries at least 5 pounds of fecal matter within it), and this elimination of useless sludge has the effect of burning off excess fat. The exercise effectively metabolizes the fatty tissues around the stomach and intestines, and flushes them out of your body through blood, sweat, urine, and feces.

Here’s how to do the stomach-rubbing exercise:

1) Lie flat on your back on your bed or on the floor. Take your top off or pull it up so that your abdominal area is bare.2) Rub your hands together vigorously for about 15 seconds, or until they feel hot. Rub Stomach Away3) Place one of your hands directly on your belly button and begin to rub in
small circles around your belly button, and gradually make the circles larger (as shown in the diagram). Use fairly firm but comfortable pressure and rub at a slow, even pace, approximately 1 circle per second.
4) Concentrate on the heat building up in, around and throughout your stomach.

5) Do about 40 to 50 circles, or for an approximate duration of 2 minutes or more.

Note: It is important to keep the abdominal area warm while doing the exercise, especially during winter months when even heated indoor air tends to be cool.

For best results, do this routine twice a day for 2 minutes — first thing in the morning (before breakfast) and just before you go to bed. Most people see noticeable results within 1 week of consistent practice.

According to Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), the stomach is the center of energy. Massaging the stomach in the manner described above therefore accomplishes more than just melting away adipose tissue (fat). It also …
* stimulates the abdominal organs
* helps speed up slow digestion and remedies constipation
* increases blood circulation in the abdominal area
* helps heal indigestion, nausea, diarrhea, vomiting and the adverse
effects of overeating

Caution: The stomach massage should not be practiced immediately after a heavy meal. Neither is it advisable for women who are pregnant, or have inflammation of the uterus, bladder, ovaries and fallopian tubes; and individuals who have the following conditions: hypertension; stones in the gall bladder, kidneys or bladder

; general, femoral, inguinal and umbilical hernia; bleeding of the stomach, lungs or brain; or ulcers of the intestines and stomach.
